What You'll Need

Hush Puppies:

  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 2/3 cup shredded smoked chicken
  • 1/3 cup sliced green olives
  • 2 tbsp grated onion
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley
  • Olive oil spray

Sour Cream Dip:

  • 4 oz plain brick-style cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 4 tsp finely chopped chives
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp each salt, pepper and paprika
What To Do

Preheat Air Fryer to 350˚F.

Hush Puppies: In large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, baking soda and smoked paprika. Whisk together egg, buttermilk and lemon zest; stir into cornmeal mixture (do not overmix). Fold in chicken, olives, onion and parsley. Using 2 wet spoons, scoop batter with one spoon and then using another spoon, shape hush puppy into oval or football shape.

In batches, place hush puppies in basket of Bella Air Fryer and spray with olive oil spray. Air fry, shaking basket halfway through cooking time, for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Sour Cream Dip: Stir together cream cheese, sour cream, buttermilk and mustard until smooth. Stir in chives, garlic, salt, pepper and paprika. Serve with warm hush puppies.

Tip: Alternatively, serve hush puppies with store-bought tzatziki sauce.
